A Slice of Community Spirit: Maison La Corderie Raises £170 for Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey

On Friday 26 September, the warm, welcoming halls of Maison La Corderie were filled with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked cakes, the gentle hum of conversation, and the sound of laughter as residents, families, staff and friends came together to support Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey.

Rosie and Eileen, two long-standing supporters and beloved members of the Maison La Corderie community, spearheaded the day with their trademark energy and generosity. Tables were laden with an impressive array of home-baked treats — from classic Victoria sponges to indulgent chocolate squares, delicate scones and beautifully decorated cupcakes. The bunting was up, the kettle was on, and the stage was set for a truly heart-warming morning.

Visitors arrived throughout the day — some by bike, some with friends in tow — to enjoy a slice of cake and a cup of tea, all while supporting an important cause. The home was abuzz with activity as residents welcomed guests, swapped baking tips, and shared personal stories about why Macmillan’s work matters so much.

By the end of the day, the Maison La Corderie community had raised a fantastic £170 for Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey. Every pound will go toward providing free emotional, practical and social support to islanders affected by cancer, making a real difference in local lives.

Rosie and Eileen extended a huge thank you to everyone who took part: “To our residents, their families, friends, staff and every kind soul who popped in to support us — thank you. You made the day truly special.”

Events like this embody the spirit of MHA Jersey: community, compassion, and shared purpose. Whether baking, pouring tea, or simply joining the conversation, every contribution added up to something truly meaningful.

We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future — because when the community comes together, even the simplest acts (and a good slice of cake) can create lasting impact.

A huge well done to everyone involved!
