Ponies, Tea Rooms and Memories: A Joyful August Week at Stuart Court

Mid-August was anything but quiet at Stuart Court, as residents enjoyed a wonderful week packed with activities, outings and special visits. It was a true celebration of community life — filled with fun, friendship, laughter, creativity, and even a little pony magic.

The highlight of the week came when Jethro, an adorable miniature pony from Finns Ark, trotted into Stuart Court for a heart-warming afternoon visit. Residents gathered in the lounge to meet their four-legged guest, offering carrots, cuddles and plenty of gentle pats. Jethro’s calm nature and inquisitive personality quickly made him a favourite, sparking smiles and conversations that lasted well into the evening. One resident laughed, “You don’t get ponies visiting every day — this made my week!”

Later in the week, residents headed out to the Poplars Tea Room to enjoy a leisurely summer afternoon. With sun hats on and teacups in hand, they shared delicious slices of homemade cake, admired the garden in full bloom, and savoured the simple pleasure of being outdoors together. Outings like these are a cherished part of life at Stuart Court, offering a refreshing change of scenery and the chance to reconnect with the island community.

Another special moment came when the Jersey Library team visited for a reminiscence session. They brought a selection of fascinating books and photographs, including collections about the Battle of Flowers, a treasured Jersey tradition. Around the table, residents shared memories of floats, parades, costumes and celebrations from years gone by. Stories flowed freely, often punctuated with laughter and knowing nods — a beautiful reminder of how shared history brings people together.

Creative expression also had its place during the week, with residents taking part in a colourful flower-craft session, arranging miniature floral displays and decorating them with ribbons and embellishments. The tables were soon covered with bursts of colour and handmade charm.

From ponies to petals, library books to tea cakes, the week perfectly reflected what life at Stuart Court is all about: joyful connection, shared experiences and meaningful moments. A heartfelt thank you to everyone — staff, volunteers, visitors and residents — who helped make it so special.
