Proposal to Refurbish and Extend Stuart Court
Methodist Homes for the Aged Jersey is pleased to announce plans for a proposed extension and refurbishment of Stuart Court, marking an important step in strengthening the home for the future while continuing a proud tradition of care spanning more than 60 years.
The proposed works reflect the organisation’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality care in a safe, welcoming and dignified environment. As a not-for-profit organisation, all investment is directed towards supporting residents and enhancing the place they call home. The plans will allow Stuart Court to upgrade its facilities while preserving the warmth, familiarity and strong sense of belonging that residents value so highly.
The proposals include the construction of a three-storey extension designed to complement and enhance the existing listed building. Once complete, the number of rooms will increase from 28 to 50, helping to meet growing demand for high-quality care in Jersey.
A new car park, set down below the road, and a new main entrance are proposed to improve access for residents, visitors and staff. The existing parking area will be converted into a secure landscaped amenity space, with the removal of the two existing vehicular access points. Although newly built, the extension has been carefully designed to respect the character and appearance of the existing listed building.
Alongside the extension, the existing building will be refurbished to modern standards. Works include external upgrades such as new windows and improved balconies, refurbishment of bedrooms, communal areas, staff rooms and the kitchen, improved accessibility throughout the building, and installation of a new fire sprinkler system to enhance safety.
Preparing the planning application is the first step in bringing this vision to life. Methodist Homes for the Aged Jersey welcomes feedback from residents, families, neighbours and the wider community as it moves forward with plans that represent a meaningful investment in the future of Stuart Court and in the continued care, dignity and comfort of its residents.
