Stuart Court was delighted to welcome residents, families, friends and members of the wider community to a successful
Open Garden in support of the National Garden Scheme, creating a memorable day centred on companionship, hospitality and charitable giving.
The event, featured in the
Autumn 2026 edition of Les Laurentins, gave visitors the opportunity to enjoy Stuart Court’s flourishing gardens, newly opened courtyard and the warm, welcoming atmosphere that is so important to life at the home.
Bringing the community together at Stuart Court
The Open Garden was made particularly special by the presence of Jersey’s Queen’s Nurses.
Stuart Court Home Manager
Elaine Jackson is also a Queen’s Nurse and currently the only Queen’s Nurse in Jersey working as a care home manager. Our residents were delighted to welcome visiting Queen’s Nurses and members of the community, sharing both the home and its gardens while helping to raise money for important charitable causes.
Live music in the new patio area added to the relaxed atmosphere, while visitors enjoyed homemade cakes, teas and refreshments.
Two especially impressive cakes were created by the talented chefs at
Maison La Corderie, demonstrating the close relationship between MHA Jersey’s two homes.
Supporting the National Garden Scheme
Funds raised through the Open Garden will support the
National Garden Scheme, which raises money for nursing and health charities.
Opening Stuart Court’s gardens provided a wonderful opportunity to support these causes while also giving visitors a glimpse into everyday life at the home.
For residents, events such as these are about much more than a day out in the garden. They create opportunities to spend time with friends and family, meet new people and remain connected with the wider Jersey community.
That sense of belonging is central to MHA Jersey’s philosophy of care.
Looking to the future of Stuart Court
The event came at an exciting time for Stuart Court, with plans progressing to extend and enhance the existing building.
MHA Jersey is seeking to increase the home’s capacity from
28 to 52 rooms, helping to meet the growing demand for residential care in Jersey.
The proposed improvements also include upgrades to accessibility, safety and the overall environment for residents, while carefully respecting the character and heritage of the existing listed property.
Importantly, residents have played a role in shaping the plans. Their views have helped identify the qualities of Stuart Court that should be retained, including its familiar surroundings and welcoming atmosphere.
What should families consider when choosing residential care?
Choosing a care home is a significant decision, and we always encourage prospective residents and their families to visit in person.
Spending time at the home provides an opportunity to meet residents and staff, experience the atmosphere and discuss individual care needs and preferences.
